What is this place?
Pocket|Trax is an MP3 Blog but we do not review music. What we do is collect and share artist information and sample tracks and leave the reviewing up to you, the community. We give you something to listen to and in return you use our community tagging and commenting to help create a resource where music is easily experienced, explored, and shared. If nothing else, we will have the biggest music Tag Cloud our servers can handle.
Do you not know music? Is that why you don’t review?
That is definately not the case. There are so many people out there (including all of the great sources that we use) that are exponentially better at reviewing music than we are. Since we don’t have the time in our lives to write the well thought out verbage that makes up a great review we thought we would do the next best thing and let you do it.
What are all of these little orange images ?
These indicate that there is a RSS feed available for whatever you are currently looking at. For example, if you select Boston as a category then the image indicates that you can subscibe to the Boston RSS feed and you will receive a notice when an artist from Boston is posted. This works for all tags, artists, and categories. Read this article for more information on the beauty of RSS.
The overall RSS feed for this site can be found here.
Why do I have to register?
1. We don’t like spam on our site. Requiring registration helps reduce the spam and keeps things clean.
2. We are in the business of building a community and a community is only as good as the personalities that gather there. Wouldn’t you rather hangout with someone named cobaltbomb than anonymous or guest12345. We sure would.
3. We would like to know who is tagging and commenting so down the road we can have contests and give away prizes based on participation and such. We hope at somepoint we will have plenty of shwag to give away. If not we will at least keep track of the top taggers by month or something fun like that.
4. For all those who are concerned, we will not use your email for anything besides verification.
What Should I do if I am a label or artist and I want my music removed from this site?
Don’t be angry. We are only trying to help spread the word about you and your band. Please just email us and we will remove them. The music we post is for sampling purposes only and we strongly recommend buying the artist’s music if you find enjoyment from the songs we offer.
Will you post my music?
If you are an artist or a label that would like to have music posted on Pocket|Trax please email us (or use our request page) with the following information:
1. Country Name
2. State/Province Name
3. City/Town Name
4. Current Label
5. Website
6. At least 3 (preferably 4 or 5) links to downloadable mp3 files.
7. Your Website so we can give you props as the source
We will accept any type of music. We would love to create a broad selection of music types beyond just the usual stuff.
Please do not email us music files. If you are unable to send links to your music please let us know and we will give you an address to send it to.
What does this play button do?
The play button next to the song title creates an M3U playlist that can be played on most of the leading media players. In the future we will probably implement other playlist types including ASX, SMIL, and XSPF that are supported by other players. If you are an iTunes user and have issues with how it plays multi-song m3u files this tool will solve all of our problems.
Why do you post such crap?
The reality is we probably wouldn’t enjoy half the things you have on you mp3 player and visa versa. On the other hand, we do believe in giving everyone a fair shot even if it doesn’t fall in our wheelhouse. Who knows, maybe Alternative Country or Old School DUB is something that has been missing from your life. All we ask is that you give each artist an unbiased listen.
If you think something is crap, we ask you not to just put the word “crap” in as a tag or comment. We are here to learn and explore music and the word crap doesn’t really help in the process. Try and make an effort to say something description in order to explain why it is crap. Like “sounds like it was recorded in a tin can” or “airplane noise heard in background”. Look at the picture it makes in your head and describe that picture.
We are not biased and calling our choices bad things will not sway our choice for future releases. If you want to see something posted, just let us know and we will do the best we can.
Where did the music go?
By default, all music links will be available for 1 year from the date of posting. Some artists might request a shorter time period so those tracks will be available for a shorter amount of time.
How often will you post?
We will make an effort to have at least 1 post per day and probably no more than 2. Things happen, but we plan on trying to hit those numbers.
Why can I only tag once?
The concept of tagging artists is a bit of an experiment at this point and we are not quite sure how much it will take off. We are not really sure how well the system will react to an over-whelming amount of tags. Over time we may expand that number to 2 or 3.
If you have any other questions or comments please email us directly.
Other than that,
Enjoy and be nice.
